FLORENCE

GUCCIO GUCCI

1   /   3   /   2018

Guccio Gucci was an immigrant in Paris and London when he was impressed with the luxurious luggages that guests bring in with them.

When he returned to Florence, where it is famous for high quality materials and skilled artisans, Guccio founded the House of Gucci. Initially set up to sell leather bags to horsemen, Guccio progressed to sell luxury luggage due to the change of transportation mode to horseless carriages.

The first retail shop opened in 1938 on the Via Condotti in Rome. 1947 was when the immediately recognizable Gucci icon was established; most of Guccio's classics were created early during the 1950s such as the luggages, ties, and handbags with the famous bamboo handling. After Guccio Gucci passed away, his family successfully took over the business and expanded it internationally to the brand it is today.

As of today, the Gucci creative director is led by Alessandro Michele, with John Ray, Alessandra Facchinetti and Frida Giannini in the team.
